ABOUT ALANNA TARRAO - LCMHCA, LCASA
The focus of my work is to develop a strong, collaborative, therapeutic relationship with you in which we can work as a team towards reaching your goals. Whether it is finding healthy and effective ways to cope with anxiety, depression, life changes, relationship issues, or substance use, I believe all individuals have the inner resources to experience transformation. My primary approaches to treatment are rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative therapy. I believe change begins through awareness of self, values, and true aspirations. With that awareness, we can then begin the practice of reframing the negative core beliefs that guide emotions and reactions, the automatic assumptions that strengthen patterns of thought, feeling, and behaving, and the repetitive stories we tell ourselves about our lives, our worlds, and our interactions with others, in a more positive, genuine, and empowering way. I am wholeheartedly committed to creating personalized treatment plans for each individual based on their personal, cultural, and spiritual uniqueness. My main goal is to practice therapy authentically and holistically, meaning I will always meet you where you are at and utilize a variety of modalities and techniques to maximize your well-being.
I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. My clinical experience includes working with individuals and families in an intensive in-home setting, as well as with adults experiencing issues with substance use, relationships, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and lack of meaning, purpose, and direction in life.
I received my M.A. in Counseling with a specialization in Addiction Counseling and am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Applicant in the state of North Carolina, as well as a National Certified Counselor.
I enjoy adventure and exploring the world - especially in the natural bliss of National Parks, reading and writing both for fun and with purpose, and being with others and sharing connection - especially while cooking and consuming good food!
