EMDR Intensives for Single-Episode Trauma
A single traumatic event can have a lasting impact on your daily life and emotional well-being. Whether you have experienced a car accident, the death of a loved one, a traumatic birth, a medical emergency, an assault, or another distressing event, an EMDR Intensive can help you process the experience and find relief. Unlike traditional weekly therapy, EMDR Intensives provide extended, focused sessions that allow for deeper healing in a shorter period of time. Our therapist create a personalized, supportive environment to help you reduce distress, regain a sense of safety, and move forward with greater confidence and peace.
EMDR Intensives
EMDR Intensives are extended therapy sessions designed to provide focused trauma treatment and deeper therapeutic work within a condensed period of time. Unlike traditional weekly therapy sessions, intensives allow for longer uninterrupted processing, which can help clients make meaningful progress on specific treatment goals.
During an EMDR Intensive, sessions may include EMDR reprocessing, grounding and regulation skills, resourcing, and integration work. Breaks are incorporated throughout the session to support emotional regulation and comfort.
Types of Intensives Offered
Extended EMDR Sessions (2–4 Hours)
Extended sessions are ideal for clients who would benefit from additional time beyond a traditional therapy session to focus on a specific issue, recent event, trigger, or treatment goal.
Single Event Intensives (4 Hours to Full Day)
Single Event Intensives are designed for clients who are looking to focus on one clearly identified memory, event, or treatment target. This format can be especially beneficial for individuals wanting concentrated work on a specific experience that continues to impact daily functioning.
Who May Benefit from an EMDR Intensive?
EMDR Intensives may be a good fit for individuals who: Have one specific issue, event, or target they would like to process Feel “stuck” in traditional weekly therapy Prefer a focused and accelerated treatment format Have limited scheduling availability and prefer extended sessions Are emotionally stable enough to engage in deeper trauma processing
Who May Not Be a Good Fit?
Intensives may not be appropriate for everyone. Individuals with extensive or severe childhood trauma, highly complex trauma histories, or multiple unresolved trauma targets may benefit more from ongoing weekly therapy rather than a condensed intensive format. In these situations, longer-term treatment often allows for safer pacing, stabilization, and more comprehensive processing over time.
Clinical appropriateness for an intensive will be determined collaboratively during the consultation process.
