Anxiety Therapy in Mooresville, NC
Our licensed therapists help you identify what drives your anxiety and give you real tools to manage it. In-person sessions in Mooresville and telehealth available throughout North Carolina.
You Don't Have to Live with Constant Worry
Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy, and one of the most treatable. Whether you are dealing with racing thoughts that won't quit, physical tension, avoidance patterns, or the exhausting effort of appearing fine while struggling internally, skilled therapy can change the trajectory.
At Greenwood Counseling Center in Mooresville, our therapists specialize in anxiety treatment for children, teens, and adults. We use evidence-based approaches tailored to how anxiety shows up for you specifically.
Types of Anxiety We Treat
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Persistent, hard-to-control worry about everyday situations such as work, health, family, or finances. GAD often makes it difficult to relax, concentrate, or sleep. Therapy targets the thought patterns and avoidance behaviors that keep the anxiety cycle going.
Panic Attacks and Panic Disorder
Sudden episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms including racing heart, shortness of breath, chest tightness, or dizziness. Many people with panic disorder begin avoiding situations they associate with past attacks. Treatment focuses on breaking that avoidance cycle and reducing the fear of fear itself.
Social Anxiety
Significant distress in social or performance situations, often leading to avoidance of interactions, events, or opportunities. Social anxiety can affect relationships, careers, and daily functioning. Therapy helps you challenge the beliefs driving avoidance and build confidence gradually.
High-Functioning Anxiety
Appearing outwardly capable and productive while internally experiencing constant worry, perfectionism, difficulty delegating, and an inability to slow down. High-functioning anxiety is often overlooked because it does not always look like distress from the outside. Therapy helps you identify the cost and build sustainable ways of managing.
How We Treat Anxiety
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is the most well-researched approach for anxiety. It works by helping you identify the thought patterns, interpretations, and behaviors that maintain anxiety, and replacing them with more accurate, flexible responses. CBT is structured, practical, and focused on giving you skills you can use outside of sessions.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
For clients dealing with situational anxiety or seeking shorter-term support, SFBT focuses on strengths and solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Sessions are forward-looking and action-oriented.
Exposure-Based Approaches
Avoidance is the engine that keeps anxiety running. Gradual, supported exposure to feared situations is one of the most effective ways to reduce anxiety over time. Our therapists use exposure techniques thoughtfully, at a pace that works for you.
EMDR for Anxiety Rooted in Trauma
When anxiety is connected to a specific traumatic event, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can produce faster relief than traditional talk therapy alone. Greenwood Counseling Center offers both standard EMDR and EMDR Intensives for single-episode trauma.
Situational and Transitional Anxiety
Anxiety tied to specific life events such as a job change, relationship transition, health diagnosis, move, or loss. Even when the cause is clear, the anxiety can feel overwhelming and hard to work through alone. Short-term focused therapy is often highly effective in these situations.
Anxiety in Children and Teens
Anxiety in younger clients often presents as school refusal, stomachaches, excessive reassurance-seeking, irritability, or social withdrawal. Our therapists use age-appropriate approaches including Play Therapy for young children and CBT-based strategies for adolescents to help kids develop lasting coping skills. Families are included in the process when appropriate.
What to Expect When You Start Anxiety Therapy
Your first session is a conversation. Your therapist will ask about what you are experiencing, your history, and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. There is no pressure to share everything at once.
From there, you and your therapist will develop a plan that fits your goals and schedule. Most clients see measurable progress within the first several sessions, though the pace varies depending on the type and history of anxiety.
Sessions are 45 to 60 minutes. We see clients in person at our Mooresville office and via telehealth throughout North Carolina.
Anxiety Therapy for Children, Teens, and Adults
Anxiety looks different at every age, and it responds best to treatment that accounts for those differences. Our therapists work across the full age spectrum:
- Toddlers and preschoolers: separation anxiety and early behavioral patterns
- School-age children: anxiety around school, friendships, and transitions
- Preteens and teens: social anxiety, perfectionism, and academic pressure
- Adults: work stress, relationship anxiety, major life transitions, and chronic worry
